100 Men Campaign Launched

Shelterhouse Announces 100 Men Campaign

The campaign is designed to appeal to 100 positive male role models in the community.

Please invite men you know to join the 100 Men Campaign!

Sometimes it is hard for men to join in the fight against family violence. Shelterhouse is launching a campaign to engage men to take a stand against domestic and sexual violence. The campaign is designed to appeal to 100 positive male role models in the community. Each campaign participant is asked to donate $100 to be used to provide awareness, education and prevention programs in our community. In addition, each man will have his name published in a full-page advertisement, publically taking a stand to end violence in our community. The full-page ad will be published in connection with Domestic Violence Awareness Month during October.  Participants are asked to join with other men in our community in defining manhood as the strength that respects women and children and promotes healthy, equal relationships. Through this campaign, Shelterhouse hopes to take another step to generate the positive change needed to make our community a safer place.

Here are just a few more ways men can make a difference:
• Be a role model to other men. Young men are uniquely positioned to reach out to other young men who are violent at home, to let them know, "You need help, and I want to help you. Your behavior is not acceptable."
• Take a vocal stand against domestic and sexual violence. Men speaking out can have a powerful effect in helping change social norms that support and perpetuate abuse.
• Reach out to a family where domestic violence is present. Just offering to listen and acknowledging what is going on helps chip away at the walls that surround and isolate families living with abuse.
• Act as a role model to a child who lacks a positive male figure in his life. A male mentor and friend can provide consistent support and can even help the child make a safety plan, if needed.
• Take a leadership role in civic organizations, such as sports clubs, churches, and neighborhood associations, and speak out against violence in the home.
